Lucknow, Nov 28 (IANS) The 47th All India Police Science Congress began here on Thursday with India’s first woman IPS officer and now Lt Governor of Puducherry, Kiran Bedi, inaugurating the event.
Bedi underlined the need for beat policing across the country. “Through beat policing, we can know about every resident in the area. There should be a beat box or booth in every locality where people can come with their problems and the concerned constable should solve them. When I was posted in Delhi, I had set up beat boxes and the Magsaysay award that I was given also mentions beat policing as an achievement,” she said.
The All India Police Science Congress (AIPSC) is being held in Lucknow after a gap of almost 22 years. The last time the event was held here was in 1997.
